Setting a Realistic Budget
The first step when planning an interior design project is both the most challenging and the most important: preparing a realistic project budget. Whether you’re building from the ground up, tackling a large-scale home renovation, or focusing on a single room remodel, having a realistic budget will give clarity into what is possible and will guide the project’s style, quality, and execution. Having a budget of $25,000 for a kitchen remodel versus $150,000 will yield a very different process, team, and result. So… How much does it cost to hire an interior designer?
Homeowners often have a beautiful vision in their heads but aren’t quite sure how to translate it into a budgetary number. You may be thinking, “I know what I want, but have no idea what it will cost!” As a full-service interior designer, a large part of my role is helping clients understand the cost of various elements in a design project, especially when it comes to renovation and construction, as those numbers aren’t readily known. Once a budgetary number is identified, my job is to work within that budget to design a functional and beautiful space.
At Rooted Interior Design, we understand that every project is unique, and we are committed to providing design services that align with your vision, personality, and style without adding more details and decisions to your busy life. That doesn’t go without being transparent with how much it costs to hire us.
Design Fees
The investment for our full service interior design services begins at $3,000/room and our design fees are billed as a flat fee or hourly depending on the project and square footage. Construction and Furnishings Budget
After 10 years of working in the design industry, we’ve established some budgetary starting points for design projects that allow us to work with high-quality vendors, reputable contractors, and skilled tradespeople to give our clients a unique space that exceeds their expectations. Our clients that are wanting to fully furnish a room typically have budgets beginning at $10,000-15,000. Most projects that involve extensive construction changes to plumbing and mechanical, like master bathroom or kitchen remodels typically budgets beginning at $20,000.
Sidenote: Particularly for projects that involve construction, such as kitchen remodels or powder bath remodels, it’s always a good practice to plan extra for unforeseen circumstances. It’s common for last-minute additions, discoveries, or changes to be required. For construction projects, we recommend setting aside a contingency fund of about 10-20% of your construction budget.
Why hire a designer?
Recently, we visited a client’s home as she asked if we could just dream up the perfect kitchen design for her. (Of course, we can!) However, most people hire me so that I can help them determine the look, feel, and most importantly – function of their space. we don’t just take everything you tell me and give it to home depot to design for you. There is an entire research phase tailored to your family’s needs regarding durability and aesthetic likes and dislikes. I give you detailed questionnaires that ask numerous questions about your kitchen or cabinetry requirements appliance preferences, storage needs, and much more. This comprehensive approach ensures that every detail is unique to you.
We then run through your design in 3D so you are comfortable with how everything looks, flows and functions. Moreover, I oversee the entire construction process and maintain seamless communication with your contractor to ensure everything runs as smoothly as possible. From blueprint review to material selection and project management, my goal is to ensure that the project is executed with intention and meets your expectations.
